Microblading vs. Powder Brows: Which One is for me?
With the sudden popularity and media attention to the term microblading, many are led to believe microblading is not a tattoo process or is not permanent makeup. Permanent cosmetics, micropigmentation, dermal implantation, microblading/microstroking, eyebrow embroidery, hairstroke brows, powder brows, digital brows, etc. are all different names for the same procedure – cosmetic tattooing. However, within the realm of Permanent Makeup, there are different methods of application.
Microblading (Creating Hairstrokes)
The look of “hair”… Typically gives the most realistic results. ALL skin types will heal hairstrokes differently, some will maintain very crisp strokes, and others will look slightly more “blended” – this is unpredictable.
With a manual hand tool (microblade) or with a machine, strokes are gently implanted into the skin in the very uppermost layers of the skin, creating a crisp, clean, hair-like effect. Because there is not as much color implanted and because the hairstrokes are typically is so fine, this method by itself requires more frequent touch-ups to maintain the new color.
* Two, and sometimes three, visits are necessary to create final result.
** Touchup rate is typically more often than other techniques, lasting the average person 10-18 months. Of course, individual results will vary.
***Not suitable for most skin types.
Powder/Shaded Brows
Very much able to achieve a soft, natural look, this is a more “filled in” look. Pigment is implanted to resemble the powdery or shaded look of makeup. While typically not solid or harsh-looking, this option is a more filled-in look than that of hair strokes.
While a second visit is included, it is not always necessary for final result.
*Touchup rate typically less frequent, lasting the average person 1 to 4 years. Of course, individual results will vary.
Combination Brows | Microblading (Creating Hairstrokes) and Powder Shading
Bringing the above two application techniques together.
A combination of hair strokes and soft shading to create a polished, full brow, maintaining the softness of crisp hairstrokes through the defining areas of the brow. While hairstrokes will tend to fade, this style of brow will hold its pigment and shape for a longer duration, that closer to the expected longevity of a powder brow. The majority of the brow is typically done in the powder style.
A second visit eight to 12 weeks post initial procedure is recommended; after that, every one to four years depending on how well your skin retains pigment.
*Touchup rate typically less frequent, lasting the average person 1-4yrs. Of course, individual results will vary.
